Preserving Our Heritage Providing for the Future! Why do we need a community foundation? A community foundation is a local, public charity established to provide an easy way for people to give assets or leave assets to their community or to specific entities, such as public libraries, community centers, parks, etc. It provides a means for individuals or organizations to create their own funds under the community foundation umbrella without having to get their own tax-exempt (501c3) designation. It also relieves those creating funds--for a church for example--of certain responsibilities and liabilities. A community foundation is a vehicle for creating a permanent community endowment. Our Keith County Community Foundation, through our affiliation with the Nebraska Community Foundation, provides professional management of our funds. We can provide donors with maximum flexibility and tax advantages.
